Mohammed Suleiman, the Acting Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament, announced that if the parliament does not convene by the upcoming Wednesday, he will step back from facilitating the first session.
Today, Mohammed Suleiman issued a statement inviting all members of parliament to participate in the first session on Wednesday, February 22, 2025, to proceed with electing the parliamentary leadership team.
In the conclusion of his statement, Suleiman warned that if the session is not held, members of parliament will bear legal responsibility for any constitutional or political crisis that arises in the future. Conversely, they will not be accountable for any legal or political outcomes resulting from the failure to hold the session.
The Kurdistan parliamentary elections, held on October 20, 2024, led to the convening of the first session of the sixth parliamentary term on December 2, 2024, under the chairmanship of Mohammed Suleiman, a newly elected and youngest MP. However, the session only covered the swearing-in of members, while the vote for the parliamentary leadership team was postponed due to disagreements among political parties and has yet to take place.
